OTIS POCUS’ AFRO-CADABRA???
The actual history of the formation of the group, as well as, the personal history of its members; remain a topic of debate for seemingly all whom inquire. When asked to enlighten the public to the details Pocus laughed and said, “That’s not entirely my fault,” referring to various accusations surrounding the discovery, stateside arrival, and domestication of the group’s other members.
Prince Herby Houdini, currently provides OPAC with a menagerie exotic beats garnished graciously with the signature polyrhythmic contortions, that made his a household name in the Orient where he was discovered performing in a nomadic Mongolian sideshow, at 6 years of age. It was said that after Pocus discovered this prodigy, he promptly abducted Houdini, and harbored him in a tin shed in New Orleans throughout the course of his domestication training. Pocus denies this stating that Houdini was actually the son of a former neighbor who was left to him for safe keeping, and that the boys roots were actually in Tijuana, where he rescued him from certain poverty and pestilence.
Afro- Cadabra’s guitarist, “The Weasel” Swami P.T. Blackstone, was said to have been discovered near the bank of the Ganges performing a series of guitar patterns that not only charmed several cobras at once, but also transformed these notorious killers into insatiable nymphomaniacs, this movement of patterns has since become known as the legendary Hindi guitar trick. Pocus was accused of attempting to coax the swami to alter the tonal sequencing, so that the trick would work on women, in the interest of selling the trick to young men in search of multiple lovers. Ludicrous, maybe so, maybe not.
One of the most controversial accusations however surrounded Pocus’ introducing the addition of master sonic illusionist, and loop selector Nikolai “digital” Catfish. It has been said that through the use of various semi-legal shenanigans, Pocus managed to convince an underground network of genealogists, biologists, & electronics experts to develop a human-style life form with supersonic capabilities, a new breed of life, bionic life, developed to be used to do his bidding.
Some have said it is the looming presence & the mysterious powers of Houdini, Blackstone, & Catfish that secure Otis Pocus’ freedom from the clutches of authorities worldwide. When I asked him: Is Otis Pocus a man to be forever marked by the law as a threat to the common order of society? Pocus quickly and nonchalantly replied, “I don't care about a society that don’t understand what's really relevant, MUGICA!!! HA HA HA, HO HO HEY!!! ”
Although little if any information has been confirmed in regard to where, how, or why this band came about, and to Cleveland Ohio no less, one thing is certain Otis Pocus' AFRO-CADABRA is here and they will be heard, CRAZY LOUD, CRAZY CLEAR, CRAZY FRIGGEN CRAZY!!!!
